Nigerian musicians' top ten list for 2021

The topic of the 'Top 10 best musicians in Nigeria' is divisive. The challenge with tracking Nigeria's top ten best musicians is that it is impossible to do so without bias.

Because there are numerous music genres in Nigeria, each with its own following, reaching an agreement on the top 10 best musicians will be difficult if no objective criterion is utilized.

People will always be curious about the criteria used to compile a list of Nigeria's top 10 finest musicians in 2021.

Clacified has compiled a list of Nigeria's top ten musicians for 2012. While there are many elements at play while considering the top 10 best musicians in Nigeria, we only want to utilize one metric: awards.

The top ten finest musicians in Nigeria were chosen based on the total number of awards received by each artist.

The choice of who is Nigeria's top musician will always be subjective. Even yet, the amount of accolades won by an artist is an objective fact free of feeling or bias.

Afro-pop, Afro-fusion, RnB, blues, Rap, and other contemporary music genres will be represented among the top ten finest musicians in Nigeria.

1. Wizkid - No of Awards is 68


Wizkid has been considered a music legend for following in the footsteps of Fela Kuti and greatly contributing to the global acceptance of African music (Afrobeats).

The Afrobeats artist has long been linked to his colleague Davido, a major figure in Nigerian music.

Wizkid is the most awarded musician in Nigeria in 2021, with 65 accolades.

Wizkid has four studio albums and one EP under his belt:

  • Ayo
  • Sound from the other side (SFTOS)
  • Made in Lagos
  • Soundman Vol 1 (EP)


Wizkid's debut album, Superstar, was widely anticipated and went on to win the best album award at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Wizkid's album, Sound from the Other Side (SFTOS), was also a hit, earning Wizkid the title of Ojuelegba coroner.

SFTOS & Made in Lagos reached Number 2 on the Billboard World Albums chart in the United States, while also charting well in many other countries.

Wizkid made history in 2018 when he became the first Afrobeats singer to contribute to Drake's song "One Dance."

2. Burna Boy - No of Awards is 36


Burna Boy is an Afro-fusion singer from Nigeria. Afro-fusion varies from Afrobeats in that the former incorporates elements of Afrobeats, dancehall, reggae, American rap, and R&B music.

Clacified's selection of the top 10 best musicians in Nigeria for 2021 includes Burna Boy. As previously stated, the top ten finest musicians in Nigeria are determined by the total amount of accolades received by this magazine.

Burna Boy is Nigeria's second best musician, with 22 trophies under his belt. Burna Boy is also the first Nigerian musician to win a Grammy prize in recent memory.

Burna Boy rose to prominence in 2012 thanks to his popular single "Like to Party." Burna Boy's first album, L.I.F.E., was released in 2013 and included the song "Like to Party."

Burna Boy won Best International Act at the 2019 B.E.T. Awards, shattering several glass barriers on his journey to the top.

Burna Boy's fourth studio album, "The African Giant," received a Grammy nomination for Best World Music Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. He did not, however, win the honor.

At the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, Burna Boy was nominated and won in the same category.

3. D'banj - No of Awards is 29

Oladapo In Nigerian mainstream entertainment, Daniel Oyebanjo, better known as D'banj, is a household name.

Because of his numerous achievements, D'banj, popularly known as the Kokomaster, made our list of the top 10 finest musicians in Nigeria in 2021. D'banj is credited with winning 29 honors during his career in the music industry.

D'banj is the third best musician in Nigeria based on the aforementioned criteria. D'banj's ranking as Nigeria's second best artist, according to Clacified's standards, demonstrates that he is no newcomer to the game.

After the release of his smash track "Oliver Twist" in 2012, D'banj gained international recognition. After its initial release, Oliver Twist topped various international charts;

In 2011, the song topped the African charts, and it was a top ten hit in the UK singles chart in 2012. In 2012, it reached No. 2 on the UK R&B chart.

D'banji has won numerous national and international accolades. D'banj was the winner.

He was named Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2007, Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2009, Best International Act: Africa at the 2011 BET Awards, and Best-selling African Artist at the 2014 World Music Awards. He also won the Evolution award at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2015.

D'banji was a security guard at a studio in the United Kingdom where Don Jazzy was working. After the duo returned to Lagos in 2005, Don Jazzy saw D'Banji's skills and proceeded to produce a record with him called "Tongolo."

D'banji's first sponsorship agreement occurred after the single became a hit.

    Another Nigerian music legend is Davido. Davido was born into a millionaire family, but his success appears to have come via hard work.

    Due to his numerous wins, Davido was named one of Clacified's top ten finest musicians in Nigeria in 2021. With a total of 29 awards, Davido is Nigeria's fourth best musician.

    Davido rose to prominence thanks to his second single, "Dami Duro." "Dami Duro" was included in his debut album, "Omo Baba Olowo," which was released in 2012.

    Headies' 'Next Rated' award was one of Davido's early honors that highlighted how far he would go (2012).

    Davido's single "Fall" went on to become the longest-charting Nigerian pop hit in Billboard history, while "If" received a lot of exposure in Nigeria.

    5. Olamide - No of Awards is 22



    Olamide, better known as Baddo or BaddoSneh, is the first Nigerian to sign a deal with Cîroc as an endorser.

    Clacified's selection of the top 10 best musicians in Nigeria for 2021 includes Olamide. Olamide is Nigeria's fifth best musician, with a total of 22 awards.

    Olamide has won a total of 22 accolades, demonstrating that he knows how to manage his musical niche.

    Olamide is well-known for steering the Nigerian hip-hop genre.

    Olamide's first album, "Rapsodi," was published in 2011, and its lead hit "Omo To Shan" catapulted him to fame.

    Olamide has received numerous accolades, including The Headies, Nigerian Entertainment Awards, and Nigerian Music Video Awards, among others.

    Throughout his musical career, Olamide has released at least 11 studio albums.

    6. 2Baba - No of Awards is 21



    2Baba is a household name synonymous with music, quality, and African identity.

    2Face, often known as 2baba, is one of Nigeria's most well-known musicians. 2Baba was the first African act to win the MTV Europe Best African Act Award in 2015.

    Based on the singer's number of wins, 2Baba is the 6th best musician in Nigeria in 2021.

    In 2016, the Afro-pop singer changed his name from Tuface to 2baba.

    2Baba, Faze, and Blackface were members of the Plantashun Boiz, a trio of musicians who dissolved in 2004.

    Following the disbandment of the duo in 2004, 2Baba released a solo album, "Face 2 Face," which became a hit and cemented his viability as a solo artist.

    "African Queen," 2Baba's 2006 song, earned positive reviews around the world.

    Tiwa Savage is a musician and vocalist from Nigeria. Tiwa Savage is Nigeria's seventh best musician, with a total of 20 trophies.

    "Once Upon a Time," Tiwa Savage's debut album, was released in 2013 on Don Jazzy's Marvin record label.

    Tiwa Savage is the first woman to win the MTV Europe Music Awards' Best African Act category.

    Falz, as Folarin Falana, is Nigeria's eighth best musician. Based on the number of awards, Falz was named one of Nigeria's top ten best musicians in 2021.

    Based on alphabetical order, Falz is the eighth best musician in Nigeria, ahead of Patoranking and Simi.

    Falz rose to notoriety thanks to his track "Marry Me." In 2014, he published his first album. Falz earned an LLB honors degree in law from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom.

    Falz was named Best New International Act by the Viewers at the 2016 BET Awards. Falz is known for his involvement in social causes and has used his music to draw attention to societal ills in Nigeria.

    During the EndSars demonstration, Falz was engaged, encouraging his other celebrities to join the battle against police brutality in Nigeria.

    9. Patoranking - No of Awards is 12



    Patoranking, whose full name is Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, has been named Nigeria's 9th best musician for 2021.

    The reggae-dancehall artist was born in Ebonyi state but raised in Lagos. After securing a record deal with Foston Musik and releasing his smash single "Girlie O," Patoranking became a household name in Nigeria.

    MTV Base's Official Naija Top 10 chart placed the smash single at No. 9. "Daniella Whine" and "My Woman, My Everything," both by Patoranking, topped the MTV Base Official Naija Top 10 chart.

    Patoranking was named Best New Act at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2015. Patoranking now has a total of 11 awards in his collection.

    10. Simisola - No of Awards is 12



    Simisola Kosoko is the last but not least of Nigeria's top ten musicians. Simi is ranked as Nigeria's 10th best musician.

    Simi is married to Adekunle Gold, a Nigerian Afro singer, and they have a daughter together.

    Simi began his career in music as a gospel singer. Simi achieved popularity in Nigeria after her hit single "Tiff" was released in 2014.

    Simi has released 4 studio albums and 1 Ep.
